[1 Peter 2 verse 5]
‘you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.’
This year marks a very special anniversary for us as a church - 125 years since work to create the building where we meet to worship was started.
Over the course of the year our plan follows events surrounding the bringing into reality of the vision for our building 125 years ago. The special events have been planned around significant dates in the journey from the former buildings at Tuthill Stairs and Bewick Street in the centre of the City to the present site here on Westgate Road in 1886 and the opening of another church in Jesmond in 1887.
Given the legacy bequeathed us, we have tried to match our celebration with a fresh vision for a new legacy. As part of this we have agreed to begin two very special projects:
A project in Peru where we hope to provide the finance and possibly some of the labour assisting our link missionaries with a new church/mission centre building in Nauta, Peru.
Remodelling the former caretaker’s flat to create an ‘Upper Room’. This requires the help of many people from the Church family to do as much as possible of the practical work
We have planned a programme of special events throughout the year - download the programme from the link on the right. We hope everyone who calls Westgate their home (or former) church will enjoy being part of as many of these events as possible.
