History 

The history of Westgate Baptist Church is an amazing story of God doing wonderful, extra-ordinary things through ordinary people.

Over the centuries, there has been a constant stream of witnesses sent out into the daily life of our city - its government, professions, trade, industry, sports fields and street corners have all felt their influence and that of the Spirit through them.

The present building on the corner of Northcote Street and Westgate Road was completed in 1886. Our spiritual forefathers, however, can be traced back to 1650, when the town had a population of 13,000 and was still garrisoned by Parliamentary troops!
